Lot 136; Porsche Design Group Watch

Ignoring price, fuel economy and room for fly rods, one of my favorite cars is nearly any Porsche model. (The Cayenne is not a car, and simply put, I don’t like it.) But it’s rather unlikely that even a lowly Boxster will ever spend its nights next to The Wife’s Prius.

Maybe there’s a remote chance — though probably still just out of reach — that a Porsche could find its way on to my wrist…the wrist where I don’t usually wear a watch but probably would if it were one up for sale from the Porsche family collection.

Bonhams will auction, just in time for Christmas gifting, forty-nine watches owned by the descendants of Ferdinand Porsche, with the proceeds going to charity. The Porsche family’s fingers extend beyond autos to include the Porsche Design Group, with its own watch designs, and Eterna, one of the largest independent watchmakers in Switzerland. Last month General Motors announced its intention to bring a new Caprice to market, tapping the Australian-built Holden Statesman sedan platform, which ironically is already sold under the Caprice nameplate in the Middle East.

Now Ford’s jumped into the game, announcing without specifics, plans to develop an all-new Police Interceptor, perhaps based on the rear-drive Australian-market Ford Falcon.

Maybe soon the Blue Brothers can ride again, this time in a 300+ hp, 6.0-liter V-8 powered sedan with “…cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks. … What do you say, is it the new Bluesmobile, or what?”
